Just like Lemmings, Worms is one of those early PC games that has stood the test of time. This iPhone version of the classic turn-based battle game recaptures the magic of the original on the small screen.
The object of Worms is to destroy your opponents using the wit and skill of your team of slippery warriors. In order to do this you have a wide range of weapons and utilities at your disposal, including homing rockets, jet packs, dragon punches, parachutes, and other weird and wonderful devices. When you hit a worm, his strength will be reduced, and take away enough and it will kill him (as will knocking him into the water). You and your opponent (AI or human) take it in turns to launch attacks, and the winner is the first to wipe out the opposition team.
The controls in Worms for iPhone are surprisingly easy to get to grips with. This is largely thanks to the pinch-to-zoom feature that lets you quickly switch between close-up and overview. Worms can be moved simply by tapping the side of the screen you want them to move towards, and flipped in the air just by touching them. The aiming system for the weapons is pretty straightforward, too.
This version of Worms is very well presented, from the colorful graphics to the hilarious speech (despite their cute voices these worms are far from friendly). There are lots of community features, plus the ability to connect to Facebook and Twitter to share your Worms adventures.
Worms for iPhone is an example of how a good game can withstand the test of time and still be great fun to play.
